size, each painted with an arrangement
of flowers, vessels and ornamental blue
rock within a bracket edged rose trellis
border under eight framed panels of
flowers, crack, 39.3cm.;

A large ‘family-rose’ Dish,
Qianlong, painted with multi-coloured
chrysanthemum blooms and rose bamboo
within a rose ground rim filled with
flower and tendrils and with four
repeated fish panels, rim restoration,
23cm.;

A ‘family-rose’ Dish, Qianlong,
attractively painted with a flowering
prunes’  and pink peony framed by a
whorl ground rim panelled with flower
sprays between broad open flower heads,
35.3cm.;

A ‘family-rose’ oval Tureen,
Cover and Stand, Qianlong, with
iron-red hare’s head handles and
pomegranate finial, enamelled with a
repeated motif of a butterfly hovering
over peony, Artemisia and
chrysanthemum within and under cell
diaper bands filled with meandering
flowers, stand repaired, turquoise enamels
rubbed on tureen and stand, stand 38cm.;

Barber’s Bowl, Qianlong, of oval outline,
the well and sectioned rim enamelled
with fine wisps of flowers, 31.2cm.;

A ‘family-rose’ export ware
Tureen, Cover and Stand, Qianlong, of
barbed oval section, with double loop
handles and panache knops, painted in
coloured enamels with peonies, foliage
and other flowers growing from a rocky
base from behind a fence, with scattered
insects, fruits and flowers, knops repaired,
chips and repair to stand, approx. 47.5cm.;

A Pair of impressive Mandarin
palette hexagonal Vases and Covers,
Qianlong, the grisaille and rouge-de-fer
brocade ground reserved on each facet
with a long landscape cartouche filled in
the foreground with domestic scenes,
families relaxing about a shore, all
between iron-red landscape panels and
bird vignettes, repeated on the cover
under a seated dog-of-For, repair to rim of
one vase, hair-crack on one vase, small repair
to one cover, lion glued on other .

A Pair of Mandarin palette
hexagonal Vases and Covers, Qianlong,
each turquoise ‘chicken-skin’ ground
painted with attractive scenes of figures
relaxing on the banks of rivers within
elongated panels between moulded and
gilt flower heads under smaller
rouge-de-far landscape vignettes,
repeated on a cover beneath a dog-of-For
finial, one cover repaired, hairline crack to
the other, crack and chip to one vase,
41.3cm.;

An export ware baluster Vase, Qianlong, applied with four grape-vine borders heightened in blue enamel, fitted as a lamp, 25.8cm.;

A Group of export ware Porcelain, Qianlong, comprising: a Chinese Impair Bowl, decorated with peonies, 22.8cm.; 9in., a circular Dish, painted with dwellings and trees by a river, 28.5cm.; a ‘Fitzhugh’ pattern rectangular Box and Cover, 17.5cm.; and a ‘family-rose’ Bowl, all damaged.

Qianlong, comprising: two armorial
Tea bowls and a Saucer, enamelled with a
festooned shield and monogrammed
S.B.D., three blue and white export ware
Coffee Cans, painted with peonies and
willow trees, a ‘family-rose’ Tea bowl and
two Saucers and an odd Saucer, some
chips.

A Pair of attractive export ware
Dishes, Qianlong, of European silver form,
with boldly threaded shaped rim framing
a border of scattered rose sprays about
an expansive oval panel and depicting a
lady adorning her hair before a mirror
placed on a table in the garden, seven
ladies in waiting attending upon her,
43cm.;

A Canton ‘family-rose’
Punch-Bowl, Jialing, the sides painted
with a continuous scene leading from
soldiers on foot and on horseback to a
group of dignitaries presenting
themselves to ladies on a terrace, a green
fret scroll border on the foot, on the rim
numerous white birds perched in
branches alternating with gilt dragon
edge trellis panels, the interior filled with
butterflies under a gilt border
centred on a figure medallion, 32cm.;

A Pair of ‘family-rose’ hexagonal Vases, 19th Century, each panel painted with an Immortal below attendants between applied flower, bamboo and pomegranate handles, chips, 27.5cm.;

A ‘family-rose’ enamelled porcelain Plaque in a wood Frame and Stand, 19th Century, decorated with a scene of officials gathered about a potentate seen over the walls of his palace where a party receives a further visitor; a hung haul frame and elaborate steed stand, 74cm.;

A Pair of ‘family-rose’ Fish
Basins, Guangxu, each painted in
predominantly green enamels with pairs
of birds including a peacock and golden
orioles between borders of brocade and
meandering flowers, the latter containing
landscape vignettes under the lipped rim,
five ornamental carp within, 41cm.;

A Pair of Canton ‘family-rose’
Vases, Guangxu, of true baluster form,
each applied with a gilt dragon and pearl
between an upper garden scene of fowl
and a lower landscape filled with
peacock, deer, phoenix and songbirds,
hair-crack, 29.5cm.;

A Pair of Canton Vases, 19th
Century, each of tall mallet form,
applied on the shoulders and wasted
neck with pairs of gilt dragons and
Buddhist lions in a ground of scattered
Precious Objects and figure vignettes
reserved with two larger gilt key-fret
framed figure panels, one rim riveted,
61cm.; 24in.

A Canton ‘family-rose’ Basin,
Bottle and Stopper, both filled with
scattered flowers and fruit inhabited by
birds and butterflies, the bottle of classic
globe and shaft form, the basin with
reverted rim, 40cm.; 153In, damage to
stopper .

A pair of Canton ‘family-rose’
Jars and Covers, Jialing/Dialoguing, each
stout baluster body well painted with
broad figure narratives between fruit and
butterflies in gilt ground borders,
gilt-metal mounted rims, one jar and both
covers restored, 65cm.;

A ‘Da ya zhai’ Box and Cover,
late 19th Century, of rounded form,
enamelled with pairs of crested white
birds wading amongst us, massive
flower heads emerging between broad
green leaves, further birds descending
from the sky, the cover inscribed Da ya
zhai alongside an iron-red seal, the base
with the four character mark yong ching
chang chun (eternal prosperity and
enduring spring) in iron-red, 31cm.;

‘Da ya zhai’, translating ‘Pavilion of Grand Culture’ or ‘Studio of the Greater Odes’, was the studio name of the formidable Empress Dowager, Cixi. The group of wares bearing this inscription is therefore associated with her and it is thought that the designs may have been inspired by her own paintings if not for her own personal use.

A fahua Jar and Cover, 19th
Century, of compressed upright baluster
form, the broad sides slip-trailed with the
Eight Immortals between white clouds
against an aubergine background framed
by waves and a blue rye collar, repeated
on the cover with green flower head
centres, 27cm.;

A turquoise glazed Group of Wendi, Ruler of the North, Ming/early Ch’ing Dynasty, seated upon a stepped throne, on either side a diminutive courtier, at his feet a tortoise and snake, facial features left in the biscuit, occasional black and gilt pigments, minor restoration to tortoise, 18.8cm.;
