stout baluster body well painted with
broad figure narratives between fruit and
butterflies in gilt ground borders,
gilt-metal mounted rims, one jar and both
covers restored, 65cm.;

A ‘Da ya zhai’ Box and Cover,
late 19th Century, of rounded form,
enamelled with pairs of crested white
birds wading amongst us, massive
flower heads emerging between broad
green leaves, further birds descending
from the sky, the cover inscribed Da ya
zhai alongside an iron-red seal, the base
with the four character mark yong ching
chang chun (eternal prosperity and
enduring spring) in iron-red, 31cm.;

‘Da ya zhai’, translating ‘Pavilion of Grand Culture’ or ‘Studio of the Greater Odes’, was the studio name of the formidable Empress Dowager, Cixi. The group of wares bearing this inscription is therefore associated with her and it is thought that the designs may have been inspired by her own paintings if not for her own personal use.

A provincial blue and white Meiping, Ming Dynasty, the inverted baluster-shaped body decorated with a continuous band of flowers and scrolling foliage below a rye collar enclosing us, the narrow splayed foot encircled by tall lappets, 24.7cm.;

A 17th Century blue and white Brush pot, Transitional Period, the
wasted body painted with a continuous scene of crested birds amongst rocks and flowering peony between incised line borders, rim chipped, 22cm.;

An export ware armorial star-shaped Dish, Kanji, charged with the arms of Raymond in a central blue gourd medallion, six Imaret flower sprays on the angled sides of the six-pointed rim, 13.9cm.;
